Program Overview

The Old Tappan Public Preschool Program is a nurturing, early childhood learning program for typically-developing children and those with special needs. Students are placed together in an integrated learning environment that utilizes a child-centered approach of combining learning with play. Children are immersed in a variety of planned activities to promote school readiness skills, language development, and social/emotional growth. Our Preschool Program weaves naturally into our kindergarten programming, allowing for transitional ease.

This program provides:

• Classroom teacher certified by the NJ Department of Education in Early Childhood Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities

• Instructional aides

• NJ Department of Education-approved curriculum

• Spacious classroom facility at T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School

• Full school day program, following the Old Tappan PK-8 School Calendar

• Before-Care and After-Care Programs available in the school at additional fees

Eligibility and Requirements

• Must be at least three years old or four years old on or before October 1, 2023

• Must be a resident of Old Tappan

• Must be fully toilet trained

• New students eligible for entrance into kindergarten in September 2023 will not be considered for enrollment in the preschool program

Enrollment Process

• Beginning Monday, February 13, 2023, completed applications must be emailed to [email protected] No applications will be accepted prior to this date or after March 24, 2023.

  • Download the registration form and complete (Page 3 of this packet).

  • Complete document and submit via email to address above.

  • Email subject line: INTEGRATED PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

• Completed applications will be assigned numbers once submitted.

• The numbers will be entered into a lottery for the available number of open preschool seats for general education students.

• The lottery will be drawn at the Board of Education Office. See date below.

• All notifications of acceptance and non-acceptance will be made the week of the lottery.

• If not selected through the lottery, students will be placed on a waiting list. Openings that arise shall be filled from the waiting list in the order that completed applications were originally received.

Tuition

The tuition will be $11,000 for the 2023-2024 school year (September through June), inclusive of a $2,200 deposit required by June 1, 2023.

Transportation

District-provided transportation is not available. Transportation to and from the program is the family’s responsibility.

Deadline for Application: Friday, March 24, 2023

Lottery: Monday, March 27, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Board of Education Office, Conference Room

Parent Notification: Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Registration

A registration packet will be provided after notification of acceptance.

Information needed for registration:

• Birth certificate with raised seal

• Proof of residence in Old Tappan

• Copy of current immunizations

• Tuition deposit
