The process for filling a vacancy differs from a typical school board election. The person appointed by the Board will become a full member of the Board and serve in that position until the next reorganization meeting in January, 2024.

In order to be considered for this appointment, interested candidates must submit a letter of interest, resume, and any other available information indicating their qualifications.

These materials may be mailed to the attention of Mr. Douglas Barrett, School Business Administrator/ Board Secretary, c/o The Old Tappan Board of Education, 277 Old Tappan Rd, Old Tappan, NJ 07675 or emailed to [email protected] with “Board Vacancy Application” in the subject line.

The deadline for receiving materials is Monday, April 17, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.

Interviews with candidates for the vacancy will be conducted by the Board of Education in Executive Session on Monday, April 24, 2023 beginning at approximately 6:00 p.m.  Each applicant will be a specific appointment time and will be interviewed separately.  After all interviews are completed, the Board will deliberate.

At the May 8, 2023 Board of Education Meeting, the Board will make a nomination(s) to fill the vacancy and then vote to appoint one of the candidates. The candidate with a majority vote of the remaining members of the Board will immediately take the oath of office and be seated.
